  18. <p>     Hollywood is holding its breath, waiting to measure the
  19. box-office potential of Warren Beatty's $30 million Dick Tracy,
  20. which opened last weekend. But the film community's anxiety has
  21. not stopped movie moguls from laying plans to bring more comic
  22. characters to the screen:

  24. <p>CAPTAIN AMERICA
  25. </p>
  26. <p>     Matt Salinger, actor son of the reclusive novelist J.D.,
  27. stars as the World War II superhero. He battles archrival the
  28. Red Skull in this film set for autumn release.
  29. </p>
  30. <p>BLONDIE
  31. </p>
  32. <p>     The Disney company hopes to follow its Tracy flick with a
  33. new musical version of the classic comic strip. Oscar-winning
  34. screenwriter Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy) will pen the
  35. script.

  37. <p>THE FLINTSTONES
  38. </p>
  39. <p>     Here's another '60s cartoon planned as a live-action film.
  40. Producers are hoping to cast Roseanne's John Goodman as Fred and
  41. British comedian Tracey Ullman as his long-suffering wife Wilma.

  43. <p>BRENDA STARR
  44. </p>
  45. <p>     Filmed in 1986, this Brooke Shields-Timothy Dalton vehicle
  46. has been tangled in lawsuits ever since. If Dick Tracy proves to
  47. be a big hit, producers could dust it off for a wide release.
  48. </p>
  49. <p>THE JETSONS
  50. </p>
  51. <p>     The space-age family won't be played by live actors in this
  52. film set for summer release. Teen-dream pop singer Tiffany
  53. provides the voice of George Jetson's daughter Judy.
